We kicked things off with our first project – and it went better than expected, earning a perfect score for client satisfaction. That success was our first, but it wouldn’t be the last.
Starting out is always tough - especially in the middle of an economic downturn. But Flare made it work. Our first project was a resounding success – and it set the tone for everything that came after. We wrapped it up with a 100% client satisfaction rate and got certified for ISO Management Systems in the same year.
By the next year, things were starting to pick up. Flare’s reputation for reliability and integrity spread quickly, especially around the North Sea. We earned the DNV Approval of Service Supplier accreditation, which brought with it an important credibility boost.
In 2017, Flare moved into the Cairnrobin Pipeyard. We took on a workshop and set up offices, creating the space to handle our growing business. This was more than just a physical move – this was the year Flare really began to shine. We received ABS accreditation and became FPAL verified, securing our place as a trusted safety provider.
Flare’s first international project took us to the sunny waters off the coast of Italy, providing fire safety services to a drilling rig. It was a big step, showing Flare was more than just a local player. By the end of the year, we’d expanded to offering services in the marine sector, helping vessels docked in Aberdeen Harbour.
By 2019, it was time to start building a team. We brought in our first full-time employees and expanded our presence at Cairnrobin Pipeyard into a larger unit. We also earned our IDEST certification, marking another important milestone in our journey.
2020 wasn’t an easy year – for anyone. But Flare used the time to double down and strengthen our core services. We expanded our in-house capabilities, adding hydrotesting and gas detection to our offerings. More services available in-house meant higher quality and quicker turnaround for clients.
In 2021, Flare moved into its current headquarters at Marywell Commercial Park. It wasn’t just about the space – it was about solidifying our position as a serious player in the safety industry. The new building houses our Service Centre of Excellence, and the team was ready for bigger things. We also expanded internationally, taking on more global projects, proving we were more than ready to take on the world.
The COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to a lot of things, but it couldn’t stop Flare. We adapted, and while many businesses were slowing down, Flare was pushing forward. We entered the renewables sector, supporting offshore substations at Hornsea 1. The team grew, the work evolved, and our commitment to safety never wavered.
2022 was a landmark year for Flare. We landed a major engineering project, designing and installing deluge and water mist systems for the WSG Diving Spread. We were also growing fast – our team expanded by 150%, and revenue grew by 70%. It was a time of celebration, and a Business Excellence Staff Appreciation Event was held to recognise everyone’s hard work.
Flare entered 2023 with a fresh new look. We rebranded with a new logo and website, signalling the company’s ongoing evolution. At the same time, we earned our SEQual certification, demonstrating that safety and quality are still at the heart of everything we do.
Flare isn’t slowing down anytime soon. With a focus on keeping safety at the forefront and expanding into new sectors, there’s no telling where we’ll go next. But one thing’s for sure: wherever we’re headed, we’ll keep striving to make the world a safer place, every step of the way.
